Blank Certificate of Qualification
A Certificate of Qualification is a document in which a Dedimus Justice
attests to an affiant's taking and subscribing the oath of office, thus
qualifying to discharge the duties of the office. This certificate must be
completed by the Dedimus Justice and given to the affiant to be filed with
an appropriate authority.
In many cases, the affiant will present a Certificate of Qualification issued
to them by some authority. For example, Notaries Public receive a Certificate
of Qualification from the Secretary of State upon receiving their commission.
However, some officials, such as municipal officials, may not receive a
Certificate of Qualification. If sworn into office by a Dedimus Justice,
a Certificate of Qualification must be provided to the municipal clerk
as evidence of the affiant's oath.
